When the imprisoned serial killer who lured and groomed her son, threatens to sell his story to the press, Suzannah feels like the life she’d built and the precious one she’s growing, teeter on a precipice. Author Bio

Heidi Field was raised in the beautiful countryside of the South of England with her parents and her two sisters. In her twenties she was a freelance Sports Massage Therapist. She achieved a Degree in Zoology at the age of thirty and then went on to raise two boys and became the stepmother of three more young children. She still lives near her family home with her partner, their Great Dane and the children that have yet to fly the nest. In her early forties Heidi completed a Masters in Creative Writing at Winchester University. She entered the course hoping she would become a children’s fantasy writer and left with a burning desire to write contemporary mysteries and thrillers. Heidi wanted to put relatable people in extraordinary situations, challenge them, push them to their limits and watch them fight for their sanity. The Other Mother is Heidi’s second novel, the next book in The Peasedale Woods Killers series.

Suzannah has just left the category A prison where her son, Mason, is serving a twenty-year sentence for his crimes as the accomplice to serial killer Gunner Piper, nicknamed The Pied Piper of Peasedale.

Hearing Mason say that he told the police he pushed Lily brings back memories of that day that are so vivid it makes my skin fizz. I don’t want to remember, don’t want my imagination to go there, but I can’t stop it. My sweet girl. Her last experience on this earth one of fear. Thinking back breaks my heart over and over.

I bend down, squatting on the wet tarmac, retching.

Someone puts an arm around me. “Hey, Suzannah. Let’s get you up off the ground. You can’t stay down there in your condition.”

I look up and Shiv is smiling at me. I reach for her hands and she helps me to my feet. She is wearing a black fitted raincoat, the hood pulled up over her head.

She lifts the hood from my three-quarter-length yellow puffer jacket to cover my head and then reaches down to zip me up. “I called an Uber to take me to the station. Is that where you’re going?”

“I’m going to the next stop along, Charnwood Station. Alec is waiting for me in town at a coffee shop.”

“Charnwood Station is fine with me. Is Alec your husband?”

“Fiancé. We’re getting married after the baby arrives.”

The Uber pulls up and we climb into the back seats, pulling back our hoods and wiping the rain off our faces.

Shiv holds my hand. “Alec isn’t the father of the man in prison then? Or does he just not want to visit him?”

“Not the father. He thinks I’m visiting a friend.”

Shiv nods and purses her lips like she understands the deceit. “Let’s share phone numbers and we can meet up. Make this a proper friendship. We can help each other.”

I nod and take out my phone, handing it to her once I’ve opened the new contact screen. She taps in her number then hits the call button so that my number pops up on her phone.

I look at her name and phone number and smile that I have a friend who knows my truth. “Thank you.”
