About the Book |
A
Christmas Murder
Susan didn’t
plan on being an amateur sleuth and, after two successful investigations, she’s
looking forward to a quiet Christmas. So, when local businesswoman Meera is in
desperate need of help, Susan agrees rather reluctantly.
The task
should be easy enough. The infamous press mogul Duncan Fern is coming back to
the Isle of Wight, the scene of his family’s childhood holidays, to celebrate
Christmas with his grown-up children and their partners, his new glamorous wife
Kirsten who is forever dripping with diamonds, and the spikey editor of his
paper the Morning Flame, Antoine. The newly-refurbished luxurious Bishopstone
Manor is the perfect setting for a festive break and all Susan has to do is
help Meera host.
But when a
snowstorm descends over the island, and the following morning a body is found,
Christmas at the Manor takes a darker turn. Can Susan get to the bottom of the
mystery before the murderer strikes again…

My thoughts |
Expecting a quiet Christmas with her feet up in front of the fire Susan finds herself helping an injured friend at a nearby hotel on the Isle Of Wight, England. She is there to assist with some rather important guests who are arriving for the Christmas Break. But things don't exactly go to plan for a 'Happy Christmas' when a newspaper editor, a celebrity - and a murder is involved.
I did find it a little difficult to get to know Susan, and to work out her relationship with Robert at first, (which did slow the start of the story down for me) but I hadn't realised that this was one of a series. The other characters were intriguing, and a good plot kept going with the mystery element until the end.
Snow at Christmas is actually quite rare in the south of England (especially the sort that snows people in) but then, this is fiction so fictional weather is quite permissible, and I confess I used Christmas snow in one of my own cosy mysteries - although only a ground-smattering.
A definite 'cosy' read with some good characters and a compulsive plot. Ideal for an absorbing Christmas Read, feet up in front of a roaring fire, chocs and mulled wine to hand- with or without snow outside, (but preferably no murders involved!)
