About the Book
Bad Moon Rising
Rock and roll relationships are complicated. They’re even worse when one of you is a werewolf.

Stevie Vane, nightclub manager of Dusk, prefers London’s nightlife to life in the pack — fewer claws, fewer challengers, far less bloodshed.
But when tragedy strikes, Stevie is forced back into a world where dominance of the pack is won by strength… and every weakness is punished. Some new members begin a brutal contest for control, and they soon discover his greatest weakness is Kat Matthews.
Kat’s band has just landed the best gig of their career at Dusk. And the instant chemistry between her and the charismatic manager is undeniable — but so are the secrets he’s keeping. Secrets that come with sharp teeth.
As the rival wolves close in and old grudges resurface, Stevie realises it isn’t just his pack at risk. It’s the woman he loves.
Witty, romantic, and gripping, Bad Moon Rising is the third book in The Immortals of London series– where feelings run wild and loyalty can cost you everything.

Author Bio –
Berni Stevens lives in an ancient cottage in Hertfordshire, which sounds like it's in the depths of the countryside, but really isn't (because the green bits keep getting built on!)

Berni spent four years at art college in Sussex before starting her first job in publishing as a book cover and promotions designer and then solely as a book cover designer for many of the big London publishers. She's now freelance, and designs for both publishers and many self-published authors. Although she still makes sure to leave time for her writing, and various hobbies. Berni was a finalist for the RNA Cover Designer of the Year Award both in 2021 and 2023.

Berni's first full-length novel was a paranormal romance, called Fledgling, which was first published in the US in 2011, and retitled Dance Until Dawn, made its UK debut three years later, followed by the sequel, Revenge is Sweet and so beginning the Immortals of London series.

Veering away from the paranormal for a while, Berni's first festive RomCom, One Magical Christmas, took some people by surprise - including herself. So much so, that she wrote three more!

With the re-appearance of the Romantasy genre ... a new paranormal romance has finally broken free – Bad Moon Rising – the third book in the Immortals of London series.

Berni can be found on Facebook, X, Linkedin, Instagram and Threads ... come and say hello!

This is an extract from Bad Moon Rising by Berni Stevens.

Justice ... the Pack way ...

‘These are the creatures I believe are responsible for the attack on our house, the murder of our father – your Alpha – together with the murder of a human woman, the murder of Morris, and the drugging and kidnap of my woman – from my own garden.’ The last part was said with a growl.

One of the men being held fast by two others sagged in their hold and shook his head.

‘Something to say?’ Stevie asked quietly, moving towards him. ‘Speak now; it could be your only chance.’

‘None of it was my idea.’ The man continued shaking his head. ‘And I didn’t kill anyone.’

‘Whether you struck any of the killing blows or not, you did nothing to prevent them being killed.’

‘Kill the lot of them,’ shouted someone from the Pack. ‘Scum.’

‘We will take a vote on that,’ said Jamie, now walking forward to stand with his brother.

Grimes suddenly broke free from the men holding him and fell to the ground, writhing and snarling as he attempted to change. The silver handcuffs prevented a full change, yet he continued to writhe on the ground, spittle flying from a human mouth filled with wolf’s teeth.

‘You don’t get to kill me!’ he growled in his hoarse voice.

The two men who’d been holding Grimes, grabbed him again, but then all hell broke loose. All around, Pack members began to transform. Shadowy figures collapsed to the ground and snarls filled the air as wolf attacked wolf.

Stevie fought against the change with all his strength and noticed Jamie was striving to do the same.

‘Back away from the Pack,’ he shouted. ‘Get back towards Will.’

They both ran back to Will, who immediately stood in front of them with Ellie safely out of sight behind. His cool presence would surely help to calm the brothers and stave off the change.

Beads of sweat broke out on Stevie’s forehead, and his breath rasped out as he panted and fought the instinct to change. He kept his concentration solely on Will, who stood tall, hands on hips, his green eyes blazing with an almost red fire in their depths, and his long dark hair blowing back in the wind. He looked every inch the demonic warrior; one no sane wolf would dare mess with.

Except for one black wolf, who appeared to have no such compunction – or sanity – as he bounded towards Will, his jaws drooling spittle as he bared huge yellowing teeth and threw misshapen, broken handcuffs back into the seething crowd.

Will merely grabbed Grimes by the throat and snarled back. ‘An ugly creature in either form,’ he said, and snapped the wolf’s neck with one contemptuous flick as if it were merely a twig. He dropped the lifeless body to the ground.

‘Would anyone else care to visit?’ he offered, holding his arms out wide. ‘I am feeling the need to take revenge for the murder of my good friend Jonathan Vane.’

After a split second of silence, three more huge wolves leapt from the now seething Pack towards Will.

‘Those loyal to us stay back,’ yelled Stevie. ‘Reverse the change – NOW!’ A slavering wolf knocked him to the ground, but Will dragged him off. Holding him aloft with ease, he threw the wolf to the ground and stood on his neck. Stevie’s four lieutenants, still in human form, grabbed the other two, holding them as they snarled and spat at their captors.

‘Do you want any of these three alive?’ Will asked Stevie. ‘I thought not.’ He answered his own question, and hauling up the huge wolf, he promptly broke its neck. He grinned at Stevie, ‘The next two are yours my friend.’

One of the huge wolves being held suddenly broke free and launched itself at Will. Stevie ran towards it, his knife raised, when a blur of movement brought the beast to the ground and a sudden death, courtesy of a sharp silver blade – wielded by Ellie. She gave Will a cheeky grin as she stood up and licked the blade clean, before slipping it back into the sheath on the belt around her tiny waist.

Will looked amused and bowed his head in thanks towards the slight figure of his wife. He moved closer to cradle her face in his hands and kiss her on the lips, then turned back to Stevie.

‘I stand corrected,’ he said with a smile, pointing at the lone wolf struggling against the men who held him. ‘That one is yours.’

My spotlight Guest - Anna Belfrage - Queen of Shadows

a spotlight on:

https://myBook.to/QofS

About The Book

She should have stayed in the shadows—but Leonor de Guzmán yearned for the sun

Castile in the 1330s is a place of constant turmoil. King Alfonso must contend with the incursions from the Muslim Marinids eager to reclaim Al-Andalus while struggling with repeated rebellions against his firm rule.

When Alfonso needs respite, he finds it in the arms of his Leonor—the most beautiful woman in the realm. But while he may love Leonor over all others, his lawful wife, Maria of Portugal, is tired of being constantly displaced by the fair Leonor.

Leonor loves her man. She gives him healthy sons, a place to be himself. But she is only a mistress, even if Alfonso treats her like a queen. Leonor’s enemies watch and hate.

Flying too close to the sun comes at a high price. How much will Leonor’s love cost her?

Based on the true story of Alfonso XI and his complicated relationships to wife and life-long mistress

Anna says:
I first “met” Leonor de Guzmán by chance. I was happily submerged in Castilian history—more particularly history related to the many powerful medieval women, such as Urraca, Berenguela and Maria de Molina—when I came upon a short post about “the most beautiful woman in the land”.

This lady was Leonor, who, apparently, was not only beautiful but wise. And greedy, as I was to discover. And a loving and protective mother. And a woman who loved her man, her king. Well, I assume she loved him—he must have loved her, as he is one of the very, very few Castilian kings not to have sired numerous bastards with numerous women. In fact, he seems to have lived in uxorious bliss and fidelity with his Leonor, who gave him ten children. Only problem was, he was being constantly unfaithful—to his wife, Maria of Portugal. With her, he had one son, his legitimate heir, Pedro.

Alfonso XI

That kings and other high-born men had mistresses was not uncommon in medieval times. Many such relationships were long-lasting, and in Castile children born of such unions were recognised. What was uncommon in the case of Leonor is that Alfonso so openly preferred her to his wife. When he held court, it was Leonor, not Maria, who sat at his side. Where she stayed at the Alcázar (the palace), Maria was bundled off to the nearby convent. This rankled—not only with Maria, but with many of Alfonso’s subjects. Even more so as Alfonso generously gifted Leonor—and her children—lands from the royal demesne.

As long as Alfonso lived, Leonor was under his protection. But what would happen if—oops! when—he died?

I guess you’ll have to read Queen of Shadows to find out!

Had Anna been allowed to choose, she’d have become a time-traveller. As this was impossible, she became a financial professional with three absorbing interests: history, romance and writing. Anna has authored the acclaimed time travelling series The Graham Saga, set in 17th century Scotland and Maryland, as well as the equally acclaimed medieval series The King’s Greatest Enemy which is set in 14th century England, and The Castilian Saga ,which is set against the medieval conquest of Wales. She has also published a time travel romance, The Whirlpools of Time, and its sequel Times of Turmoil, and is now considering just how to wiggle out of setting the next book in that series in Peter the Great’s Russia, as her characters are demanding. . .

All of Anna’s books have been awarded the IndieBRAG Medallion, she has several Historical Novel Society Editor’s Choices, and one of her books won the HNS Indie Award in 2015. She is also the proud recipient of various Reader’s Favorite medals as well as having won various Gold, Silver and Bronze Coffee Pot Book Club awards.

“A master storyteller”
“This is what all historical fiction should be like. Superb.”

My thoughts

What is exciting regarding any Anna Belfrage novel is that even though you started out with absolutely no clue of whatever era she's writing about, you know you're in safe hands, and that somewhere during your read you're going to say to yourself, "Well, I didn't know that!" (often more than once or twice!)And, what's more, you'll be thoroughly enjoying every written word.

Anna writes super stories, creates wonderful fictional characters and brings to full, colourful life the ones that actually did exist - although it's hard to believe that the other made-up ones were not real people. Her research is meticulous - and trustworthy - and as an addition to all that, there's the icing with a cherry on top extra... from the first word of Chapter One, you know you're going to be in for a treat.

I do admit I got a little lost with all the similar characters' names in this one - my problem entirely as I'm not familiar with Spanish names (nor Spain in the 14th century) and I often forget even my own fictional character's names (and couldn't remember what the cat was called last week - getting old is a bit of a pain at times!) so this is my reader's senior moments problem, not the author's. Although, as with the Anglo-Saxons it's a pity the Spanish didn't have access to a more liberal Book of Baby Names rather than them all being called more or less the same thing.

So a highly recommended read, especially for anyone who is interested in Spanish history.

***** 5 stars
