About the Book

The plot has its twists and turns to keep readers intriguedto the very end. A great comfort read that will soothe the spirit with renewed hope and faith. Readers’ Favorite five-star review

A HISTORICAL NOVEL OF FINDING HEALING AND A SECOND CHANCE AT LOVE

In the early 1900s, quiet and reserved Molly Lund finds refuge from her past at the Nelsons’ farm in Minnesota. In an attempt to turn a new page in her life, Molly works at making peace with her losses and coming to terms with the disfiguring burns on her face.

Samuel Woodson, the Nelsons’ hired hand, carries his own cares. Split from his family and bearing a burden of misplaced guilt for an act that haunts him, Samuelseeing past Mollys scarsdraws her out of her self-protective shell.

Molly and Samuel form a friendship, but just as their hearts lead them deeper, an unexpected guest comes calling, demanding whats his.

Will Molly and Samuel find a way to be together or will they be separated, due to impediments beyond their control? Can they trust in Gods plan and travel a path that heals the hurts of the past?

Readers of historical fiction, Christian historical fiction, and Christian historical romance will delight in this beautifully wrought story of the healing power of love.

A heartwarming story of healing from external and internal scars. Through some of lifes harder lessons the characters learn to trust, forgive, and find second chances out of the ashes of pain and loss.

Molly

After each of us has had a second slice of Thanksgiving pumpkin pie and a cup of tea, Samuel and I curl by the fire. The scent of spice and cedar hangs in the air. Lincoln and Mabel have gone to bed. The clock strikes 9:00, and I am sure Samuel is tired. The routine of barn chores begins early at 5:00 in the morning.

You never did tell me how you left things with your mother.”

We sit next to each other on the settee. I purposely position a small pillow between us and rest my arm on the embroidered cover, which reads, in black thread, A stitch in time saves nine.

Samuel shrugs and smiles in a ho-hum way. Not much to say. I told her I wasnt going back, and the next morning I drove her to the train station.”

I wish I knew how to encourage him. He appears to be trapped in an unmovable situation, but everything is fragile. Perhaps thats the problem—a broken relationship with his mother. I know about broken relationships. They are difficult to mend but not impossible, at least when the person isnt physically missing or dead. My mind wanders to Jacob again. If miraculously he were found, would I want to mend things between us? The question grates at my conscience.

Samuel reaches for my hand. I let him enfold his hand around mine, but I have to remind him, Im not sure my husband has died.” I let the truth sink in, waiting for him to back away from me, but he doesnt. I remind him further, Im still married, Samuel.”

The truth hurts and causes a deep place of sadness in me. Do I still love Jacob? I dont know. The pain hes caused me has certainly dampened any feeling I held for him.

Samuel nods and speaks with care. Well, that may be, but where is he, this husband of yours? Why isnt he here caring for you? What kind of man leaves his wife like he left you?”

His voice holds the hurt I often feel when I ask the same questions.

I wish I knew.” My fingers squeeze his. But Im so thankful for our friendship.”

I smile at him reservedly.

A shadow perches on his brow. Yes. Friends.

I hear the disappointment in his tone. Ive gathered he desires to be more than that to me, as I do to him.

Maybe we should call it a night.” I glance at the clock. Its getting late.”

Samuel releases my hand. Yes, I suppose.”

I rise and move to collect our dishes.

Samuel stops me and takes the plates from me, stacking the cups on top. Let me do that.”

Hes so thoughtful, kind, and considerate. A sudden burst of emotion over what could be mine causes me to tear up. I gulp back the emotion and hide my face from him.

Thank you, youre so kind,” I manage to mumble.

Its because I love you, Molly.”

He pivots and walks to the kitchen, his long strides making short work of it. His words truly make my tears fall. I struggle not to sob and grieve for what can never be between us

About the Book
A generation after Arthur Pendragon ruled, Briton lies fragmented into warring kingdoms and principalities.

Eighteen-year-old Alden du Lac ruled the tiny kingdom of Cerniw. Now he half-hangs from a wooden pole, his back lashed into a mass of bloody welts exposed to the cold of a cruel winter night. He’s to be executed come daybreak—should he survive that long.

When Alden notices the shadowy figure approaching, he assumes death has come to end his pain. Instead, the daughter of his enemy, Cerdic of Wessex, frees and hides him, her motives unclear.

Annis has loved Alden since his ill-fated marriage to her Saxon cousin—a marriage that ended in blood and guilt—and she would give anything to protect him. Annis’s rescue of Alden traps them between a brutal Saxon king and Alden’s remaining allies. Meanwhile, unknown forces are carefully manipulating the ruins of Arthur’s legacy.
