JOYFUL JUNE JOURNEYS
Chrissie has just arrived at the Retreat and has made her way down to the beach to see if it lives up to the description she had seen in the advert.
It was everything she could have hoped for. No, it was more than she could have hoped for. It fulfilled every wish she could have imagined for a private beach. It was so wonderfully clean, while somehow, unbelievably, still looking natural.
She could just
about see the brush marks of the machine which had been used to sweep the
surface of the sand and a nearby small pile of pebbles showed that any
occasional misplaced stones had been gathered in a more convenient area. They
hadn’t been removed in order to create a clinically perfect sandy area; they
had simply been relocated and were still an important part of the ecological
system.
There were
more pebbles at the edge of the waterline, but that was obviously a natural
phenomenon which created a wonderful sound as the gentle waves softly rippled
through them. She was temporarily distracted by the rhythmic resonance of the
water lapping back and forth, until her eyes slowly lifted to take in the
majestic expanse of the sea before her.
It wasn’t quite a pond, as there were ripples of waves breaking out in the distance, but it was much calmer than the sea she had been used to on other holidays. It was mesmerising and she was quite taken aback by the peace such a huge force of nature could evoke. It felt as though it was lying in wait until the time was right to reveal its power, but that would have conjured up an image of some vengeful dangerous monster, when it actually reminded her of a lazy lion who was just too tired and relaxed to play.
