Way back when, we had those awesome (at the time) first fancy desktop computers - you know, the ones with the heavier than several bricks towers, and a VDU the size of a small car (OK, slight exaggeration, but you know what I mean). Pre-internet days we thought playing ping-pong on screen was wonderful - then we moved to Space Invaders and Pacman ... and then the World Wide Web appeared (does anyway still call it that?) I remember being baffled by a friend who was enthusing about the internet:
"I can actually read a Chinese takeaway menu from a real Chinese shop in Hong Hong!" he was espousing.
"But why would you want or need too?" I kept replying,
So things have changed now - but back then, I still can't see why this was so wonderful!

One thing I have always loved is the ability to store my favouritephotos on my desktop, and use them as a screensaver for me to browse. I Have about forty 'favourite pics' and will often just let them shuffle through at random while having a tea or coffee break. (Or, OK, when I haven't a clue what to write and it's dark outside so I can't sit and look at my Devon view.)
I was sometwhat disappointed, therefore when finally deciding to upgrade to a new desktop - which meant Windows 10 - when I was advised 'not to use/bother with screensavers'.
"But I LIKE my screensavers!" I protested, so insisted that the previous screensaver file was transported from the old, soon to ditched, Windows 7 version.
How many of my friends and readers keep their favourite pics as screensavers? Or am I in a minority of 'archaic ideas'?

I still use a 'background' picture from my files (currently a moody view of Conwy Castle) and rotate them when I get fed up and fancy a change. Haven't yet worked out exactly how the screensaver works (laptop just seems to turn itself off in a huff if I neglect to use it for 10 mins) nor how to make a slideshow. Love your Pirate figurine!!

DeleteDoesn't it amaze you how much we've learned over the years. Well, decades, really? From the old Underwood to the IBM Selectric II (my personal favorite), to the various computer programs (Apple's original Lisa, Word 11, Wang, Word Perfect, etc.). And our early Indie publishing having to submit our own separate mobi-files for Kindle and print to Amazon and Smashwords.
